Kathleen Marie:  Internationally recognized artist

Kathleen’s unique media of pyrography is a superb blending of realistic rendering within the abstract character of wood grain. The translation of pyrography from the Latin is fire drawing and her technique involves burning the images into wood with a delicate electric pen. Like a sculptor she sees the pictures and stories in the wood and literally draws them out so we can share her vision. Her work seems to live in the mysterious space between two-dimensional and three-dimensional art.
Although she began to develop her signature technique as a child, Kathleen started her art career in 1979 working in the more traditional media, but her need to be challenged led her to move further into the fire so to speak. After seeing the enthusiasm that her work generated, she soon made the transition complete and now specializes in pyrography, a.k.a. wood burning.
A deep love of and connection to nature is what inspires Kathleen’s art as well as her lifestyle. She lives in the ruggedly beautiful Texas Hill Country. Walking through the woods and along the creek, hiding in the grass to watch birds, finding a Praying Mantis laying eggs are all inspiration for her. Horses as well as wildlife are a lifelong passion for Kathleen and are frequent subjects of her work.
Kathleen is a nationally recognized artist and was one of only 10 artists from Texas invited to show her work at the 2001 Inaugural Ball in Washington D.C. She is pleased with being chosen by a jury of her peers as best in category in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2005 at the Official Texas State Fine Arts and Crafts Fair in Kerrville, Texas. She was selected as one of the top five artists at the Austin Artist Harvest 2000, received an Award of Merit for Fine Art at Powers Crossroads Art Festival in Newnan, Georgia 2001 and was showcased at the Wetlands Institute Fine Art and Craft Show in Stone Harbor, New Jersey 1999. Kathleen has recently received "Best of Show: Texas Wild Bunch," in Kerrville, Texas in February 2007 and "Best of Show Mixed-Media: Rockport Art Festival" in July of 2007.
